Dramatic Hawaiian sunset looks like fire on the horizon
After a long day of sightseeing, we spent the evening on our lānai watching the sunset. And what a show it was! Hawaiian sunsets are almost always something special, and this one, with its reds, yellows, and grays, was no different. The top photo is the last one I got before the light faded. The bottom one was taken just two minutes earlier, but with the lens zoomed out.
Our home-away-from-home for the week was a beautiful condo near the Honolulu Harbor. We had a great view of the marina from our lanai and took advantage of it whenever we could. It was mostly small boats where we were at, and there was very little traffic. Except for a few people who seemed to live aboard, most of the boats simply sat for our entire stay. But with the sailboat rigging clanking with every change in the trade winds, it was a delightful place to just hang out, especially when there was a dramatic Hawaiian sunset like this one.
Linking reality with my fiction
My favorite parts of the day are always sunrise and sunset. I love the colors and the way the light changes. It’s one reason I like to describe those sunsets in my Trouble in Paradise Mysteries. McKenna, as an extension of me, has much the same love, especially at the blue hour when the show reaches its peak. And yes, you will find some of those sunset descriptions in Mystery of the Eight Islands, which is the eleventh Trouble in Paradise Mystery.
There’s plenty more to see
This sunset wasn’t the only spectacular thing we saw that day. This was also the day we toured Foster Botanical Garden and saw the murals in Kakaako. If you want to those murals, check out these two posts—Friday Fotos – 7 stunning examples of Honolulu wall art change the landscape and Friday Fotos – more wall murals from Honolulu. If you like travel photos from Hawaii, one of my favorite sites is always GoVisitHawaii.com. Each week a visitor shares a photo on the site, and some of them are truly spectacular.
