Friday Fotos – Kauai Coastline and its spectacular beauty

November 16, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

The Kauai coastline just north and west of Kapaa has a beauty all its own. This section is a beautiful place to walk or just hang out and watch the shore. This photo was taken in 2015 and I doubt it much has changed. There are enough rocks and the surf isn’t as good as on other parts of the island, so there are few surfers or swimmers. But from shore, this is a beautiful view.

Friday Fotos – Iao Valley waterfall on Maui

November 2, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

Our last trip to Maui was in 2015. It rained heavily the night before, so the rivers were flowing and the waterfalls falling. We had no idea when we decided to go visit the Iao Valley on the other side of Maui that we were going to be headed into more rain and clouds that would make the valley feel like a dream.

Friday Fotos – Iolani Palace – beauty begins at the gates

October 26, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

The magnificence of Iolani Palace can be seen from the moment you enter the grounds. The palace, which was commissioned by King David Kalākaua, is the only royal palace on US soil. For those who love beautiful architecture, this is a wonderful place to visit. Even standing on the outside of the wrought iron fence looking in, you can see this is going to be a special place.

Friday Fotos – Kilauea summit view as it once was

October 19, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

It seems strange that not so long ago, this photo of Halema‘uma‘u taken from the visitor center at Hawaii Volcanos National Park was the way it had looked for a very long time. Now, the view at Kilauea summit is very different. This photo comes from the National Park Service website. And just so you know, the park has reopened!

Friday Fotos – Lydgate Park Heiau on Kauai

October 12, 2018 By Terry 1 Comment

Digging back through my photos from our 2015 trip to Kauai, I discovered this Lydgate Park Heiau. This covers part of the Hikinaakala Heiau, a sacred area that was once much more built-up. Sadly, when the Hawaiian religion was abolished in the late 1800s, the rocks were torn out and used for roads. This is all that remains.

Friday Fotos – Liliuokalani Gardens statuary

September 14, 2018 By Terry 1 Comment

Liluokalani Gardens statuary with lagoon in background
With the lagoon in the background, this little piece of statuary drew my attention. Another fond memory from our trip in 2017.

Liliuokalani Gardens in Hilo are a must-see. It’s what I was told by a friend several years ago, and a mantra I’ve repeated since the first time we stopped there. There are so many things to see at the gardens. It pays to plan on slowing down your pace to view everything from the Liluokalani Gardens statuary to the distant views to the gorgeous flowers.
