While we were on Kauai, we took a day trip to Hanalei. Along the way, we stopped and spent time at Anini Beach. But, before heading down to the beach, we walked Anini Beach Road. There’s very little traffic on Anini Beach Road once you get past the county park. Also, the further you go, the fewer people you’ll see. This is where the paved road turns to dirt, has only houses on one side, beach on the other, and dead ends where there are no facilities. That walk, however, can be addictive to those who get lost in the scenery.
We saw some spectacular homes and some that are now “well-worn.” One was even used in the 1992 comedy Honeymoon in Vegas starring James Caan and Nicholas Cage. The one that sticks out for me, however, is the green garage and shack in the slide show. It, too, reminded me of a movie set and I kept expecting to see someone who looked like South Pacific’s Luther Billis walk around carrying a cold drink and making deals with the locals.
By the way, I’m always on the lookout for good Hawaii photos. If you have some you’d like to share, let me know and we’ll talk about featuring your shots on Friday Fotos!

A walk along Anini Beach Road slide show…
Along Anini Beach Road there are many spots where beautiful beaches are empty.
Just down the road from this spot, a family was picnicking
Here we are at the end of the dirt road. The paved road ended a ways back.
At this point, the beach may not be named, but offshore is the Anini Channel
Anini Beach is around the point just beyond the telephone pole. Very few people bother to come this far on the road.
This looks like it should be in a movie, yah? Where's Luther Billis?
All it would take is an umbrella drink and a beach chair to make this paradise perfect.
Off in the distance, we see Anini Reef, which helps to keep the snorkeling here at its best.
MY HUSBAND AND I NO LONGER CAN TRAVEL SO THANKS FOR THE PHOTOS TO ENJOY.
I’m sorry you can’t travel, Jean, but am very happy to share these. Aloha, Terry
Very nice, Terry! You seem to have a special place in your heart for Kauai.
I do, Kay. It gets harder to leave every time we go there.
The pictures are lovely. Thank you so much for sharing Terry. Hawaii is on my bucket list, but since i may never get there, this is the next best thing.
Enjoy the virtual tours! I’ll keep them coming! And, I have friends who have photos, too!
