I love a good sunrise (or sunset). The light and colors are the best of the day, and the scene signifies a beginning of a day with promise or the ending of a day well-spent. My favorite time of day to take photos is during the hour or so before the sun rises.

Sometimes, things just work out. The morning that I took this photo, the conditions were such that we had a light layer of mist close to the ground. Add to that the fact that the ice rink in Escondido was pumping out a steam cloud right in front of the sun

I’m always enthralled by a good sunrise, but there’s something truly special about an early Hawaiian sunrise. And this one, our first after sailing from Australia, did not disappoint.

I took this gorgeous desert sunrise shot on Christmas morning in Palm Desert. The wind was blowing just enough to make this a very chilly wait for the sun, but when I saw the colors, I knew it would be worth the wait.
