For the most part, all I can say about ‘Iolani Palace is wow. We recently took our first tour of the palace and were amazed at the grandeur and history. The palace was the official residence of Hawai‘i’s monarchy. In 1891, Queen Lili‘uokalani ascended to the throne after King Kalākaua died. Shortly thereafter, she attempted to change the Hawaiian constitution, but a coup driven by US sugar interests overthrew her government and put her on trial. The palace that had once been her home became her prison. Eventually, most of the furnishings were sold off to collectors. At this stage, about a third have been recovered. Even with only that small part of the palace furnishings at the palace, it’s still an amazing place. Our guide was terrific and the tour, well, it was also excellent.

Thanks, Cecelia. We missed our bus and would have been late, so we grabbed a ride with Uber. It wasn’t a bad fare at all.

It really is a fabulous place to visit. Unfortunately, most visitors to Oahu don’t take the time to visit. And just a short bus ride away from Waikiki. Thanks for visiting there.
