I’m not planning on kicking the bucket anytime soon. However, as a ‘man of a certain age,’ I’ve realized that I should make the most of each holiday season. To borrow a cliché, this is the most wonderful time of the year. It’s filled with joy, festivities, and lots of fun activities to do with family and friends. The things on my list range from simple to extravagant. So here it is, my Holiday Bucket List and another fun jigsaw puzzle.

It’s all about the journey
This week’s jigsaw puzzle is titled “It’s all about the journey.” Whether your journey is a snowy path through the mountains or watching a holiday movie, I hope you can make the most of it and have a truly special holiday!
My Holiday Bucket List
- Holiday Movie Month: Each night, we settle in after dinner with our blankets and a holiday movie. Rather than choosing mindless sitcoms or another cop/med/fire action/drama, we go for fun, festive, and inspirational movies. It’s the perfect way to get into the holiday spirit and spend some quality time with your loved one or ones, whether that loved one is a pet, a spouse, or a friend.
- Visit a Local Light Show: One of our favorite holiday traditions is driving around at night to see the beautiful Christmas lights on display. Many towns and cities have light shows that run every night during the holiday season. This year, I wanted to do something special (check out last week’s post for the details), so we drove to San Diego for the Parade of Lights. Wow! What a spectacular show it was! Next year, I’d love to go to the Solvang tree lighting.
- Visit a Christmas Market: Nothing puts us in the holiday spirit quite like wandering through a Christmas market. You’ll find delicious food, charming holiday décor, and unique gifts for your loved ones. Here’s a list from National Geographic with six of the best Christmas markets in the country. But, if you can’t make it to one of those, don’t worry—many towns have their holiday markets, too. I’ve never looked into a local Christmas market in our area, but I’ll be checking it out!
- Go on a Hot Cocoa Crawl: Who doesn’t love a warm cup of hot cocoa during the chilly winter months? Take your love for cocoa to the next level by going on a hot cocoa crawl around your city. Research the best cafes that serve unique and delicious hot chocolate drinks.
- Bake for the holidays: Nothing says the holidays like the smell of cookies baking in the oven. Whether you bake one batch or a dozen, it’s a fun and delicious activity to do with your loved ones (Need a suggestion? Try these Almond Joy Macaroons!). Plus, you get to enjoy the tasty treats afterwards! If you can’t, or don’t want to, bake cookies, try a quick bread, a cake, or even something savory like cheese straws or sausage rolls! Whatever you choose, make it fun and festive!
The holiday season is a time to celebrate all the things we cherish about life—family, friends, love, and joy. My holiday bucket list is just a start to discovering everything that this special time of year has to offer. Now that you have my list, I’d love to know what’s on yours! Why not leave a comment with at least one thing you’ve got on your Holiday Bucket List! Happy Holidays!

5:18. I liked this photo, but it made me feel cold.
Terry says
I know! Very wintry! Brrr…
Diana Hardt says
Nice picture. This one took much longer for me. My time was 17:28.
Terry says
It took me a lot longer, too, Diana. For some reason, my brain wouldn’t process all the detail!
Della Williamson says
Time was 14:30. Been years since I have been in the mountains and seen real snow. Where I am now. We get slush. For about an hour. About once every 6 or 7 years. But this reminds me so much of the many times we went sledding or just walked and looked at the wonders of winter. Picked out a tree. Had hot chocolate. And if a second fall. Snow ice cream
Terry says
We used to cross-country ski when we lived in Idaho, Della. I know what you mean about the wonders of winter. These days, that seems a little too cold for me.
Jan says
5:29 for me!
