Hawaii Liberty Bell
I wasn’t aware that in 1950, the President of the United States and the US Congress donated 55 Liberty Bell replicas, one for each US state and territory. Hawaii’s Liberty Bell is mounted in front of the state capitol and is readily visible from Beretania Street. The bell’s location also happens to be just feet from the Hop On/Hop Off tour stop. When our Red Line dropped us off, this was one of the first things we saw.
In case you can’t quite read the inscription, it says, “An exact replica of the Liberty Bell presented to Hawaii by the United States Treasury Department. July 4, 1950.” I recently learned that California’s Liberty Bell is located in Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park. Strikes me a strange how Hawaii’s bell is given a place of prominence in front of the capitol, but California’s is in a theme park. Then again, we do live in California and I suppose that’s just how this state rolls.
What I’m now curious about is where the other 53 bells are located. If you’re reading this and want to know where your state’s bell is located, you can Google it. If you do, please leave a comment and let me know what your state has done. Click here if you’d like to learn more about Hawaii’s Liberty Bell.

According to liberty.ploud.net/about-us/the-liberty-bell-replica.html, the Texas’ Liberty Bell is “is currently housed in the foyer of the Liberty Municipal Library located at 1710 Sam Houston Ave., Liberty, Texas.” I had no idea so I had to google it. I love learning!
