Each time we’ve gone to Kaua‘i we’ve tried to get in a trip to the Kilauea Lighthouse. The lighthouse was turned into a national wildlife refuge in 1985 to preserve and enhance the sea nesting colonies in the area. Since those early days, the Kilauea Point Wildlife Refuge has expanded beyond the lightouse. It now includes Crater Hill and Mōkōlea Point. This particular photo was taken in May 2009. Fortunately, the view hasn’t changed much since then.
