Our tour bus made a stop at these directional signs. No, we weren’t lost, but we most certainly were entertained. We got a good chuckle out of this one, especially regarding the sign to New York, since it’s pointing up.

Like most South Pacific islands, Lifou Island was gorgeous. Lots of green, beautiful flowers, and friendly people. As you might expect, there’s not a lot to do on a small island, so rather than choosing some wild activity, we kept it slow with a trip to the botanic gardens.

It’s been more than a hundred years since anyone actually was punished by being put in the pillory. In some cases, offenders had their heads shaved. These days, the town of Russell uses their pillory on the boardwalk as a great tourist attraction.

This Friday Foto was taken on the docks in Russell, New Zealand as we departed the MS Noordam for our day trip in town. There’s always a lot of hype about the ports of call prior to and during a cruise, but Russell lived up to the advance information in every way.

Ordinarily, shooting photos through glass just isn’t my thing. But, when you’re in the dining room of a cruise ship and the food’s about to arrive, that is definitely not the time to leave your wife at the table to try for a better Auckland skyline photo.

We expected the Auckland War Memorial to be an amazing place, and it fully lived up to those expectations. The most sobering time spent viewing the Spitfire display at the memorial was at the Roll of Honour, on which the names of New Zealand’s fallen soldiers are engraved. The mood changed to one of awe, however, when we entered the exhibit containing a Spitfire display.

One of our interests while traveling to New Zealand was to learn more about the Maoris. Fortunately, we had several opportunities to visit historical sites or see ceremonies such as this welcoming ceremony. And though the experience isn’t the same as it would be in a remote area or perhaps a hundred years ago, it’s as close as a modern tourist can get.

One of the coolest places we visited during our 2019 trip to New Zealand was a kiwi farm. It was a hot day in the valley where this farm is located, but under the shade of the kiwis, it was cool and pleasant. We weren’t allowed to pick the fruit, but we did get an education about kiwi fruit and how this golden kiwi is one of the best.

Our walk into downtown Queenstown was filled with stunning views like this one. These colorful shops are a popular tourist destination. There are plenty of restaurants and shops for all kinds of touristy needs. You could easily pack your suitcase here! We loved the ambience of Queenstown, but the crowds were a killer.
