After finishing the virtual road trip of the Mother Road, I wondered what I could do in August that might bring you equally iconic places. My solution was to turn back the clock with some of my favorite photos from Hawaii. This week, we’ll be visiting Lāhainā, most of which was incinerated by a massive wildfire that claimed over a hundred lives.
Today’s post, while it deals with what was lost, also focuses on a beacon of hope and resilience—the banyan tree in the middle of what was downtown. Join me for a story that celebrates not only the beauty of this iconic tree but also the strength of the community around it. Now, even in the face of tragedy, this tree is a poignant reminder that life, much like its deep roots, finds a way to endure. While the surrounding area begins to rebuild, the banyan tree stands as a quiet yet powerful promise of better days ahead.
Here’s the recap for last week’s Santa Monica Pier puzzle. The fastest time was 4 minutes 48 seconds and the average was 7 minutes 25 seconds. For once, I came in around the middle of the pack at 9 minutes 21 seconds (not quite sure how that happened, but I’m going to take it!). Good luck with this week’s puzzle!
