Today’s online jigsaw puzzle depicts one of the town’s cobblestone side streets. One of the fun things about Solvang and its side streets is that many of the street signs and store names are in Danish. One of our favorites is Ingeborg’s Chocolates. It’s a very popular chocolate shop in Solvang and was founded by Ingeborg Larsen in 1961. This family-run business offers delicious handmade chocolates of all kinds, from truffles to fudge and more. Some of their recipes are over 70 years old. It’s definitely one of the must-visit places when you’re exploring this lovely little town!

The architecture…oh, my!
Solvang is a unique town, and its architecture reflects that. The town’s Danish-style buildings, windmills, and streets evoke the classic atmosphere of a small European village. The city was founded in 1911 by Danish immigrants who wanted to stay connected to their homeland. Its charming architecture has made it one of California’s top tourist destinations over the years.
The town is home to several historic buildings, many of which date back to its early days as a Danish colony. The oldest building in Solvang is the Mission Santa Inés, founded by Father Estevan Tapis in 1804. Other historically significant structures include Hans Christian Andersen Museum and Library, Windmill Plaza Shopping Center, and the statue of Hans Christian Andersen in Solvang Park. The city also has a replica of Copenhagen’s famous Little Mermaid statue. All these structures contribute to the unique and timeless atmosphere that makes Solvang such an appealing destination.
