7 Honolulu wall art photos
We’d never heard of Kakaʻako or the district’s wall art prior to taking a Hop On/Hop Off tour in 2019. Our decision to grab a multi-day pass paid off each day we used it. And on this tour, what a treat it was to have our driver take us on a twisty path that gave us a view of some of the world’s best outdoor wall murals.
Our guide explained that the area had been an industrial area where there was nothing for tourists. This was a place to avoid. Then, local artists banded together to brighten things up and turned those old buildings into works of art.
These days, the area draws artists from all over the world. In recent years, there were plenty of events to draw in the crowds, including an arts night during which visitors could talk to the artists, a food truck gathering called Eat the Street, local microbreweries, and more. For now, many of these large events are on hold in Hawaii, but once things open up again, this area is sure to rebound.
Check out these nine Honolulu wall art photos from our trip. Getting these photos was a little tricky because I was on a moving bus when I shot them (and the ones I’ll have next week). The moving bus made framing a challenge, but getting these was loads of fun!
