Our road trip took us to beautiful Monterey, where, unfortunately, the whale-watching season is coming to a close. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the majestic beauty of these gentle giants. This post includes an online jigsaw puzzle that will let you experience the thrill of whale-watching from the comfort of your own home. Put your puzzle-solving skills to the test and see if you can complete the puzzle before the season ends!

Monterey Bay whale watching
November marks the typical end of whale-watching season, so this is a great time to reflect on the incredible behavior and migration patterns of these majestic creatures. Whales have traveled the world’s oceans from the North Atlantic to the South Pacific for centuries.
The Monterey Bay is home to a variety of whales, including humpback, blue, and gray whales. During whale-watching season, visitors can expect to see not only humpback and gray whales, but also orcas, dolphins, sea lions, and other marine life.
One little-known fact about humpback whales is that they can sing complex songs. The songs vary from whale to whale and can last up to 20 minutes. Scientists believe these songs serve a purpose, such as breeding or mating rituals, but the exact purpose remains unknown. Humpback whales are also very social animals and have been observed traveling in large groups and playing together.
The prime whale-watching season runs through November. We had high hopes because we visited at the end of the season. Unfortunately, we didn’t see a breach this time, but maybe someday we’ll get our timing right!
