These photos from this Flashback to the Cliffs of Jokin were taken during a cruise we took to celebrate our 40th anniversary. I’d always said that if we went to Australia, I’d only fly one way. As a result of my determination, we were on a slow boat from Sydney to Honolulu. (It’s an excellent way to travel!)
Lifou Island and the Cliffs of Jokin
Our trip began on Lifou Island in a small village known in the US as the Cliffs of Jokin on a day that was filled with blue skies. With the exception of the town’s meeting hall, you can forget the thatched roofs. The meeting hall is where the town council meets to discuss important matters.
After our trip by the meeting hall, we were escorted to a marketplace. There, a couple of local women prepared coconut drinks right in front of us. We took a pass on the local produce, but it was a delight to watch the experts at work.
The Ocean water around these islands is crystal clear. I kept thinking how much fun it would be to come back when we’d have more time and explore! And speaking of exploring the directional signage gave us a strong indication of where we were—in the middle of the Pacific Ocean!
And what trip to a tropical island would be complete with a look at the local flora? As we passed by this one, I was captivated by the intricate and delicate blooms. If, by chance, you know what this is called, I’d love it if you would leave a comment with the name.
Did you see last week’s entry? (Hint: it was a recipe.) You can find it at Easy Szechuan Shrimp. Click here to view more Friday Morning Post entries, or you can follow me on Twitter.
