On the last day of our sail to Honolulu, I got up early and went for a walk to take pictures. I took a stroll around the Promenade Deck and captured a series of photos, including this view looking aft on the MS Noordam.
Why looking aft on the MS Noordam?
The last day of any vacation is always bittersweet, right? After a good time, it’s exciting to return home and dive back into the regular routine, but there’s also a sense of melancholy because, if things went well, you don’t want the good times to stop. I suppose that’s what prompted this photo. Despite some ups and downs—the Australian flu for me and seasickness for Kathy on the long route to Honolulu—we’d thoroughly enjoyed our time aboard the MS Noordam. And when I saw this aft view, I thought about how this would be the last time I’d see it.
But there was also a sense of excitement because from the opposite end of the ship, there was a fabulous sunrise against the Waikiki shoreline. In our case, Honolulu was the last stop before we headed home. I wanted a few days on island so I could absorb as much of the ambience as possible. After all, I still had a McKenna Mystery to write (On the Take in Waikiki), and for those, I need to be in the island mindset.
