This complete World War II Spitfire was brought into the Auckland War Memorial Museum through the roof. It was donated to the museum by Sir Keith Park, a commander who helped defend London during the war. This particular plane never saw combat, but others like it were flown by many New Zealanders in the war. Many Americans do not realize the important part New Zealand played in the war, nor how many of them died. The Auckland War Memorial Museum commemorates the sacrifices made by New Zealanders and others throughout history in their efforts to defend freedom.
