Whimsy, downtown Kona style
While walking around, even while on vacation, it’s easy to miss things. For instance, I get caught up with what’s going on around me. Fortunately, this is one of the little details in the architecture of downtown Kona I didn’t miss. I’d never seen a drainpipe-guzzling fish before. Come to think of it, I still haven’t.
I found this clever creation while we were in Kona in 2014. When I saw him, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to grab a quick photo. I’d love to see what happens during a downpour. Because there’s a gap between the pipe and the fish’s mouth, I think maybe this might not be the most efficient design possible, but it’s certainly one of the most creative I’ve ever seen!

The fish swallowing the downpipe could be a modern gargoyle??
