On Saturday, Dec. 7, more than 600 bookstores will take part in “Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day.” The event began in 2010 with about 80 stores. This year, both Mysterious Galaxy and Warwick’s are listed on takeyourchildtoabookstore.org as participants in the event.
Mysterious Galaxy has two events scheduled for Dec. 7, the first is “Grinch Grow Your Heart Three Sizes and Shop Local.” The bookstore will again collect gifts and gift cards for Monarch School, San Diego’s school for homeless children. According to their website, “We will have buttons, bingo cards, and activity books for the children. Whether you are a child or a child at heart you can pledge to do 3 good deeds during the Holiday season and Random House will donate a book via First Book in our community to programs and schools serving needy families.”
The second event at Mysterious Galaxy is their “Eat! Read! Party!” event during which local authors mix and mingle with readers. The spotlighted authors include Gini Koch, Weston Ochse, Julian Vaca, Marv Gold, Reina Menasche, Mike Sirota, T. B. Smith, Richard Lederer, Gayle Dean, Barbara Galler-Smith, Josh Langston, Kevin Gerard, Penny Dreadfuis, Jennifer Fong, Michael Kingwood, James Patrick Raney, S.B.K. Burns, and myself.
