The iconic Golden Gate Bridge

In all the years we lived in the Bay Area, we seldom crossed the Golden Gate Bridge. We occasionally saw the iconic landmark from afar and admired its beauty. But fighting the Bay Area traffic to cross the bridge never was high on our priority list. Still, like most Californians, we loved this magnificent suspension bridge. For our recent road trip, we did make the crossing. As it is for most visitors, it was an amazing experience.

The elephant seal rookery at Point Piedras Blancas

Saying goodbye to the incredible rocky coastline of Highway 1, we set our sights on our next destination. Our sense of anticipation grew as we neared, and soon we were turning into the parking lot of the elephant seal rookery at Point Piedras Blancas.

Cambria Scarecrow Festival is worth traveling to

Scarecrow contests? Are you kidding me? I never knew they could be so much fun. We’d actually heard about the Cambria Scarecrow Festival from a friend before we left on our trip. It sounded intriguing, but after seeing the scarecrow contest in Solvang, we were eager to make a stop in Cambria.

Avila Beach — here we come!

Our EV road trip began at 6:45 am. A bright and sunny morning, it was the perfect time to leave San Diego. And a lousy time to drive through LA. After a quick stop in Costa Mesa for coffee, it felt like we were being bounced from one freeway red zone to another.
