It was Day 4 of our road trip, and we were headed for Mendocino. In California, the very name conjures up images of Victorian-era homes, salt-washed streets, and a community rich in art and culture. Nestled on the northern coast of California, Mendocino is a treasure trove of history. Hopefully, today’s jigsaw puzzle captured that essence.

Mendocino fun facts and history
Mendocino history is as amazing as its serene landscape. The town started in the mid-19th century during the Gold Rush as a logging community. Its rich redwood forests (check out my post about Muir Woods) attracted loggers from around the world, leading to the development of a diverse and vibrant community. The charming town lies perched atop a headland, surrounded by the Pacific’s blue waters on three sides. Its iconic water towers, historic wooden buildings, and the majestic Headlands State Park paint a scenic picture that our jigsaw puzzle encapsulates perfectly.
We were there on a cool Monday morning. A gentle breeze blew in off the ocean, and the town was barely awake. As you piece together the puzzle, I hope you’ll feel the same sense of beauty we found that morning. It’s no surprise that a town with Mendocino’s reputation has some charming streets. But there’s also an artistic ambiance that local art galleries and studios showcase by displaying the talents of the community.
In some ways, I think Mendocino’s is more a way of life than it is a place. I hope today’s jigsaw puzzle has helped bring it, and its history, to life for you.
