A Thanksgiving dinner. A family secret. A deadly betrayal.
Uncle Rupert never made it to dessert.
Someone at the Whitman family table wanted him dead—but the carving knife everyone’s staring at? That’s not what killed him.
Think you can solve this Thanksgiving mystery before next week’s reveal? Grab your detective hat and dive into “The Carving Knife Clue.” Complete the jigsaw puzzle to examine the crime scene, then tell me: who’s the real killer?
Warning: This mystery contains family drama, purple footprints, and enough red herrings to stuff a turkey.

The Seaside Cove police don’t believe sending out ugly Christmas sweaters is a motive for the town’s latest murder, but ten-year-old Alexandra Atwood is determined to prove them wrong—right after she helps her dad fall in love.
Part 1: The Setting
The Whitman family gathered around Uncle Rupert’s dining table, the golden turkey awaiting his traditional carving. Despite his diabetes and increasingly shaky hands, Rupert insisted on maintaining family traditions.
“At least someone here still values family loyalty,” he muttered, casting pointed glances at his relatives. Nephew Tom had just been cut from the will, sister Margaret was drowning in gambling debts, and daughter Linda was furious about Rupert paying off her fiancé, a man he despised.
As usual, Rupert’s foul mood sent Tom, Margaret, and Linda scattering. Rupert snorted to himself, then went to the kitchen for his pre-dinner insulin shot, leaving his niece Sarah and his wife Melba, sitting at the table alone.
Part 2: The Discovery
At the sound of the back door slamming, the family reconvened. They found the carving knife buried deep in the turkey on the dining room table and Rupert collapsed on the kitchen floor, his shirt stained with blood.
“Someone stabbed Uncle Rupert!” Margaret gasped.
But Sarah noticed inconsistencies. Despite the dramatic staging, Rupert’s face looked peaceful—not agonized. His glucose meter showed a dangerously low reading. There had been an insulin pen on the dining table, but Rupert’s own pen lay amid spilled cranberry sauce on the kitchen floor.
Most telling were the purple footprints leading out the kitchen’s back door. They were a man’s footprints.
Can You Solve the Mystery?
Your job as an amateur sleuth is to study the clues: peaceful face, wrong insulin pen, purple footprints leading out the back door. Complete the jigsaw puzzle to see the crime scene evidence, then draw your conclusions. Finally, leave a comment with how you think the story ends.
- Who killed Uncle Rupert?
- How did he really die?
- What other weapon in the jigsaw puzzle wasn’t mentioned in the story?
I can’t wait to see what you come up with! Next week’s reveal might surprise you…

My time was 8:38. I’m not sure who did it.
8:12 I think Uncle Rupert had to have been shot as there was blood on his shirt. I don’t think that there is enough information to determine the guilt of the person; however, but to me the most likely was Tom, one: because he had just been cut out of the will and two: because the gun was on the table and since the family reconvened after the slamming of the back door. I think the purple footsteps were just a red herring.
6:27 for me. I’m guessing that his wife killed him (peaceful face). She did something with his insulin, maybe air bubble? It was cranberry on his shirt and not blood. I’m terrible at this!!!!
My time was 9:04. I did notice a gun on the table in the puzzle that was not mentioned in the story. Also, there are two insulin pens mentioned in the story. Not sure how that fits in. I have not been able to determine who killed Uncle Rupert. Looking forward to finding out who-dunnit.
6:21 on the puzzle. Passed out from the lack of insulin, and shot by fiance?
8:42 is my time.
My guess is the fiancé did it. If it is a man’s footprint and the nephew is already dis inherited, he is the only one to gain if Uncle Ru is gone he can come back. no need for the gun, wrapped in a cloth napkin…an extra dose of insulin can kill quietly. And there is a missing candlestick, hmmm.
14.03 Death by Revolver
My time today was 4:52. I’m much better at jigsaw puzzles than I am at solving mysteries, so I don’t have a good guess as to who killed Uncle Rupert. However, I did see a gun lying on the table, so that has to figure into the mystery somehow since that’s not a traditional Thanksgiving table decoration!
Looks yummy!
