You’ve probably heard about Christmas in July. How about a little scarecrow festival in May? Octoberfest and scarecrow contests might be months away, but it never hurts to revel in the joy they bring.
Look at this lovely lass. She’s decked out in her finest, red gown and ready for the ball. We found her outside of the Peasant’s Feast, a family-style restaurant in Solvang. The restaurant was closed on this particular day, but they’d left out this little lady as part of the festivities.
I’m sad to admit that I don’t recognize the little fellow on the left. I’m sure he’s based on someone, or maybe, something, famous. If you know, leave a comment and let me know. The gregarious Viking on the right, with his accordion and the horns of a Viking, looks like he’s ready for a little Octoberfest. Who wouldn’t want to part with this guy? He looks like fun!
It was delivery time at Fitzpatrick’s Tavern in Solvang, and we were there to see the arrival and setup of their entry for the Solvang Scarecrow Festival. The man delivering the skeleton was, apparently, a bit of an expert on this art form. When we left, the entry wasn’t quite finished. They were awaiting the delivery of a kilt for him…um…lower half. I hope they won a prize for their delicious entry.
While wandering the streets, we came across these candy can witches. That’s a pretty cool purple hat for the tall one. And since purple is Alexandra Atwood’s favorite color (she’s the co-protagonist in Dead Men Need No Reservations), I’m sure she’d want one!
Even the nonprofits were getting in the act for the festival. They even did a little bit of blatant self-promotion!
