Jodi Allen Brice is the pen name for USA Today Bestselling author Jodi Vaughn. As Jodi Allen Brice, she writes women’s fiction, small town clean sweet romance, and cozy mysteries. She transitioned away from paranormal romance in 2020, but still writes about lovable characters who overcome the impossible to get what they want. The Mystery of the Tea Cup Quilt is the first in her Harland Creek Mystery Quilters series.
Behind the story of The Mystery of the Tea Cup Quilt
Jodi said she wrote this book on one of life’s tricky issues—having to go back home versus wanting to “Sometimes life hands us an obstacle so drastic that it changes our course in life. And it’s not all bad, even though it can feel like a failure. It usually turns out for the best.”
An avid quilter with a love of Father Brown mysteries, she also said, “I wanted a cozy mystery series where the older ladies of the town could help solve the mystery. The older we get, the bolder we get!”
Jodi’s favorite things
Although she considers herself a homebody, Jodi says she loves to travel with her husband. “But I can also find simplicity in the little things in life. A hot cup of tea on a rainy day, snuggled up under a blanket when it’s cold, or walking in nature. I loved it when flew to North Carolina to do research when I was writing my Laurel Cove series, which is set on a fictional lake in North Carolina.”
Each book in this series is named after a quilt. Jodi said, “The quilt shop where I live has a tea cup quilt. I even made one of my own which I will give away later. While I’ve been writing for a while, this is my first mystery and I loved writing it.”
One of the things Jodi enjoys about writing is the research. “I had to watch a lot of goat videos to nail down the character of Petunia, but the craziest thing I ever did happened when I used to write Motorcycle characters under a different pen name. I went to a motorcycle rally one time. It was tame compared to some of the stories I’ve heard from other people!”
