Welcome to Silvercrest
How to Book a Murder is a cozy mystery about Emma Starrs, a bookseller/literary event planner who returns to her hometown of Silvercrest, Colorado, to try and save the family store, Starlit Books. Before long, she finds herself taking on the role of amateur sleuth as well to protect her beloved aunt, a famous author accused of murder.
Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, Silvercrest is on the banks of a river that runs the length of the small college town. Over the years, it has become a destination for artistic types. Festivals and art shows happen all year round, and shoppers come in from around the Denver metropolitan area.
The Silvercrest College campus is on one end of town, and an expensive hotel named The Castle is on the other. River Street runs between them and contains numerous restaurants, stores, and galleries. Behind the buildings on the west side, gardens along the Riverwalk offer a medley of colors while streetlamps complete the picturesque scene.
Starlit Books is an inviting space full of books. The second floor is a mezzanine, open in the center, so when shoppers walk inside for the first time, they almost always stop in their tracks to gaze up at the gorgeous chandelier with star lights. Stuffed armchairs welcome eager readers, and pictures of famous authors adorn the wall behind the register.
Just a few blocks away is the old Victorian house where Emma and her sister Lucy live with their Aunt Nora. It’s quite old and quite large, with plenty of rocking chairs on the porch so people can take in the breathtaking view of the mountains, river, trees, and wildflowers.
The serenity of Silvercrest has contributed to its reputation as an artist’s dream and a reader’s paradise. Hope you’ll visit soon!
