99 steps on the Diamond Head trail
Last week I posted a photo of people climbing the Diamond Head trail in Hawaii. It was a hot, sweaty climb and by the time we reached these stairs on the Diamond Head trail, I was exhausted. In retrospect, making this climb was not my best idea. After all, I’d contracted the Australian flu and then pneumonia just two weeks before. To be honest, there were a couple of nights on the cruise ship when I coughed so hard I really did think I might die. Maybe that’s why I was so determined to make this climb.
The climb had felt like one major challenge after another. So when I saw these steps, I knew I was done. I had some consolation in the fact that while most of the climbers went on, many bailed at the same time we did. Still, I felt making it to these stairs was an accomplishment. Next time we make it back to Hawaii, I’d like to try the Diamond Head trail again, assuming I’m not recovering from pneumonia or some other awful disease.
