Fern growing out of tree at Volcanos National Park — Found along the trail to Thurston Lava Tube at Volcanos National Park, this fern has attached itself to a tree stump.

One of the really cool things about a rain forest is where the plants grow. As we walked along the path to the Thurston Lava Tube, all we had to do was look around to see how easily ferns and other plants take root in almost thin air. Very cool place (no pun intended) to be amazed—assuming you’re in the neighborhood!
