Each year, the International Thriller Writers select the best novels in the thriller genre. This year’s Thriller Awards will be presented at ThrillerFest IX, which will be held at the Grand Hyatt, New York City from July 8-12. Scott Turow, the author of nine bestselling works of fiction, will be the 2014 ThrillerMaster.
The Thriller Awards are presented in six categories, including Best Hardcover Novel, Best First Novel, Best Paperback Original Novel, Best Short Story, Best Young Adult Novel, and Best E-Book Original Novel. For seasoned authors, the highest of those awards is Best Hardcover Novel. This year, the nominees include “Touch and Go” by Lisa Gardner.
When she learned of her award nomination, Ms. Gardner said, “I’m honored, of course. I think for thriller readers everywhere, the list of Best Novel nominees represents the must-reads of the year. It’s such a strong group of authors. I still get goosebumps seeing my name included with everyone else’s!”
The Best First Novel category includes seven entries this year. Among those is JJ Hensley’s “Resolve.” This first-time author now joins the exclusive ranks of others previously honored for their first novel. Hensley said, “I was absolutely ecstatic when I received a message telling me that ‘Resolve’ had been nominated for Best First Novel by ITW. Then when I saw the entire list of names in the various categories on the finalist list, I felt even more honored to have my name associated in any way with such talented writers. As I’m sure is the case with many first-time novelists, I worked hard constructing a book, not knowing if it would ever see the light of day. Now, to see it being considered for a major fiction award is beyond any of my expectations. I’m excited to attend the awards ceremony this summer and be part of a wonderful ITW event.”
Five nominees will compete for the Best Young Adult Novel Award. Those nominees include Ashley Elston, author of “The Rules For Disappearing,” Cristin Terrill for “All Our Yesterdays,” and Allen Zadoff for “I Am The Weapon.”
When asked how she felt about being nominated for this award, Elston said, “I am so honored that ‘The Rules For Disappearing’ has been nominated for the 2014 ITW Thriller Awards: Best Young Adult Novel. When I look at the other books up for awards, I’m so humbled to be part of this amazing group. I can’t wait for ThrillerFest in July!’
Terrill was equally excited. “I’m beyond thrilled and humbled that ‘All Our Yesterdays’ has been nominated for a Thriller Award. It’s incredibly gratifying and surreal to see readers loving the book as much as I do.”
And, Zadoff sees the nomination as an opportunity to broaden his audience. He said, “Unlike the hero of my book, a teen assassin who works in the shadows, I’m honored to receive some attention and the opportunity it provides to share my work with more readers. I’m excited that ‘I Am The Weapon’ is a finalist for Best Young Adult Novel in the Thriller Awards.”
