The day began with a shortened version of The Walk. Right after that, it was off to the North Shore for snorkeling or boogie boarding. Surf was supposed to be flat on the North Shore today, so we figured the outcome would be snorkeling—it was. We went to the end of the road, Ke’e Beach. As it turns out, Ke’e Beach is under construction. Major upgrades are happening there, including new rest rooms, a life guard station and significantly fewer parking spaces. Uh-oh.
The good news is that we’d been to Ke’e Beach before and knew the parking drill. Stop as soon as you can and wait for someone to leave. We got a space, the car ahead of us didn’t because he decided to go looking for a space. Oops. The water was cold, but the visibility was EXCELLENT! We saw lots of fish and, of course, lots of people. Oh, and lots of chickens. Yes, as you can see from the photo of the chickens on the beach (the top one), there were, at one point, more chickens on the beach than people. One group made the mistake of feeding them, then couldn’t believe how quickly they were overrun with hungry cluckers. Actually, from where we were, it was pretty funny. The second photo shows the shore at Ke’e Beach. It was truly a beautiful day.
The day closed out with a rather interesting meeting. The bottom photo shows a few of the attendees. Since the day we got here, the fountains in the center of the lagoons haven’t been working. The fountains serve to aerate the lagoons, so they have both aesthetic as well as functional purposes. It would appear that the ducks decided it was time for someone to make things happen. How do we know they made it happen? Well, shortly after they got together, a couple of maintenance guys showed up and the fountains began working. A group this auspicious and powerful could only be one thing, The Association’s Board of Duck-rectors.
