Of course, we started the day with a truncated version of the The Walk. Two to three miles on the beach would turn out to be the easy part of the day. We had rain last night, so we weren’t 100% certain that we’d make it through The Walk without getting wet. But, once we got to the shoreline, it was obvious—no problems.
Today was Install the New Faucet Day. The big problem that we’d faced was whether the old shut-off valves under the counter would: A) actually shut off and B) turn back on after Step A. Well, that happened. So, that meant that I needed to remove the old faucet. That went relatively well. We got the sink cleaned up and ready for the new faucet, then started on installation. We were on something like Step 13 of 17 when the problem happened. The new faucet was in, the hot water line had been connected and I was working on the cold water line. The problem was that the old valve didn’t seem to want to let me connect the cold water line. As the saying goes, we were dead in the water. After a half hour of failed attempts to connect the cold water line to the valve, I decided that I had nothing to lose by forcing the connection—if I broke the valve and the connecting water line, so what? Well. . .it worked!
So, we had a new faucet, we had water and. . .no electricity. The lights went off. I glanced up at the fan that I’d installed yesterday. First thought: I wired it wrong. Second thought: The fountains outside went off also, the whole complex is out. Third thought: Could I have taken down the whole island—nah, it wasn’t me. Fortunately, the lights came on a short while later. And, no, it wasn’t me. The fan was wired correctly.
