Welcome to Fatu Rock. Or, as the locals call it, Flowerpot Rock. This pint-sized island is located off the coast of Pago Pago. It’s an amazing display of nature’s magic. It stands resilient against the mighty Pacific Ocean, and inspired today’s jigsaw puzzle. With its topper of lush green vegetation, this little island creates an illusion of a colossal flowerpot.

Photo of the Week – Flowerpot Rock
Fatu Rock is an iconic natural landmark and offshore islet of American Samoa. It sits near the entrance of Pago Pago Harbor, close to the village of Fatumafuti. Alongside its neighbor, Futi, the locals call these islets Flowerpot Rock.
During our tour, our guide told us that the local folklore tells a heart-wrenching tale of Fatu and Futi. This young couple embarked on a daring voyage but were tragically transformed into these verdant, tree-crowned islets. Being turned into an island isn’t a great option in life. Right? But at least Fatu and Futi are now together forever. Measuring approximately 49 by 24 meters, Fatu Rock stands 32 meters with near-vertical sides and a lush blanket of dense woodland on top. As you can see, my original photo of Flowerpot Rock is very different than the interpretation I’ve used for this week’s jigsaw puzzle. I hope you enjoy them both!
