Wall Street Journal bestselling author Abby Collette loves a good mystery. She was born and raised in Cleveland, and it’s a mystery even to her why she hasn’t yet moved to a warmer place. As Abby Collette, she is the author of the Ice Cream Parlor mystery series. She also writes as Abby L. Vandiver and is the author of the Logan Dickerson Mysteries. A Killer Sundae is the third Ice Cream Parlor Mystery.
The idea for the series came up when Abby was talking to her editor. “We were trying to come up with a hook—a concept that took me time to understand. My editor explained to me what things are being looked for in a cozy and I took two of her ideas and combined them.” She added that she does like to address issues in her stories to make them seem more real. “Everyone has issues and if I wrote characters into my story who don’t have any, they wouldn’t seem authentic. I don’t ever make an argument, reading fiction is for enjoyment, not for debate.”
Abby describes herself as “all about family and the elderly.” She said she hopes it shows in her stories and that she wants her readers to enjoy what she writes. In writing this series, she discovered writers can have fun while doing research. “I loaded up on ice cream! Grueling research, of course, but so enjoyable.”
