Letters from Santa – here we go again
The first email hit my inbox on December 1st. The second came in this morning. The subject was, ‘Your kids will love Santa’s letter.’ Good grief. Are we really doing this one again? Apparently so because the scammers know parents can be suckers for something as awesome for their kids as a personalized letter from Santa.
Well, the fat man himself told me that this particular letter from Santa scheme was going to land someone on the Naughty List. Yes, those emails came from scammers. Shame, shame, sullying Santa’s name!
Really, how could these people do this? I think I know the answer—these guys are the scroogiest of the Scrooges. They have the coldest of hearts because, well, they’re from Iceland—or, at least, that’s where the company is that’s protecting the contact information for their domain. When I checked the sender’s URL for the first email, it had nothing to do with Santa or Christmas. In fact, the domain name actually implied that they were affiliated with a group trying to take over government. The second domain simply made no sense whatsoever.
Want to send a real letter from Santa?
So here’s the deal. If you want a letter for your kids or grandkids, try a reputable company. There are plenty of them, including Santa Claus House, Santa’s Letter Factory, or PackageFromSanta.com. All three are Better Business Bureau Accredited and have A+ ratings.
Do your part and be smart. Don’t fall for the email scams from Iceland, Russia, or anywhere else. If you get an unsolicited email from a company offering to send a letter from Santa, delete it. A reputable company won’t just add you to their mailing list (at least, they shouldn’t. And if they do, consider what they’ll do with your information when you reply.)
