Lapahoehoe on the Big Island beckons

During our trip to Lapahoehoe on the Big Island I wandered to the south side of the park. This gorgeous bay, with its blue waters, white surf, and green hills seemed so idyllic. With all this serenity, it’s hard to believe this is the site of a tsunami that took the lives of school children and their teachers.

If you get a chance to visit the Big Island, Lapahoehoe is located an hour or so north of Hilo on the eastern side of the island. It’s a wonderful place to visit. I’d recommend bringing a picnic lunch (we didn’t have one with us!) so you can truly enjoy the atmosphere.
