Friday Fotos – inside out at Heritage Gardens

December 14, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

While on our way to visit the Iao Valley on Maui, we stopped at Kepaniwai Park and Heritage Center. I’ve shown photos of this impressive park before, which is dedicated to ethnic groups who helped to settle and develop Maui.

  • At the entrance to the Heritage Gardens is a river, which was swollen with runoff from the previous night’s rain…

Friday Fotos – Iao Valley waterfall on Maui

November 2, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

Our last trip to Maui was in 2015. It rained heavily the night before, so the rivers were flowing and the waterfalls falling. We had no idea when we decided to go visit the Iao Valley on the other side of Maui that we were going to be headed into more rain and clouds that would make the valley feel like a dream.

Friday Fotos- Lahaina banyan trees

September 7, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

One of the downtown Lahaina banyan trees
The Lahaina banyan trees in this downtown park are simply magnifiient.

Every time I see one of these Lahaina banyan trees, I’m amazed at their root system and at how their branches can extend for such large distances. They are truly an amazing tree and so beautiful.

Friday Fotos – Banyan Tree in Lahaina

January 26, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

Banyan Tree in Lahaina

Banyan Tree in Lahaina
If you’ve never seen the banyan tree in Lāhainā, it’s quite a treat. Some of the branches are so long they can’t support themselves.

The Banyan Tree in a centerpiece for the little town of Lahaina. People gather here to sit, talk story, and simply wander around. One block from the ocean and right on Front Street, the location is ideal for anyone who’s in the downtown area. We came through right around sunset, so the lights were coming on, but it was still light out. It was the perfect time to take a few photos and while away the time before we trekked back to our condo a few (long) blocks away.

Friday Fotos – on the Road to Hana for another fab view

February 24, 2017 By Terry 2 Comments

Alongthe Road to Hana
This photo on the Road to Hana was captured by my cousin Sharon, who was on her first trip to Hawai‘i!

Everyone who’s heard of the Road to Hana has the same impression. Terrific view, awful road. It’s not that the road itself is bad, it’s that it winds along the coast of Maui and sometimes drops down to one lane. When we went on a tour, our bus came nose to nose with a local in a small car, and she refused to back up because tour busses are not well-liked on this side of Maui. However, views make it one of those places visitors absolutely must see.

Recently, one of my cousins went to Maui and Kaua‘i. She has some great photos of her trip and this is one of them.Does’t this look like one of those places where you could sit for a few hours and contemplate the waves? Forget your cares, just say I’ve gone to Maui.

Friday Fotos — a walk at Kuloa Point

April 15, 2016 By Terry Leave a Comment

Last week, we looked upriver and makai (to the mountains) at Oheo Gulch. This week’s post shows the mauka (ocean) view from Kuloa Point, which is just a bit further along the trail. This is the spot where the river in Oheo Gulch meets the ocean and, quite honestly, I had no desire to take a header into those waters.

Kuloa Point is one of the stops on a Road to Hana tour and it was nice because they had facilities as well as a snack place, which makes it a great place for most tourists. There are several different trails and paths, some of which are easy and not too long.
