Friday Fotos – inside out at Heritage Gardens

December 14, 2018 By Terry Leave a Comment

While on our way to visit the Iao Valley on Maui, we stopped at Kepaniwai Park and Heritage Center. I’ve shown photos of this impressive park before, which is dedicated to ethnic groups who helped to settle and develop Maui.

  • At the entrance to the Heritage Gardens is a river, which was swollen with runoff from the previous night’s rain…

Friday Fotos — the Korean Garden at Maui’s Kepaniwai Park

December 16, 2016 By Terry Leave a Comment

Korean Garden at Kepaniwai Park

This is just one of the many stunning architectural masterpieces at Maui‘s Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens. This one is in the Korean Garden and fascinated me. The intricate details are even more impressive up close. Though a drizzle kept coming down during our visit, we were mesmerized by the peace and serenity of this incredible place. The next time we visit Maui, this is a must-see.

Korean Garden

The Korean Gardens, like the rest of Heritage Park, were built to honor the memory of previous generations who played a role in the history of the Hawaiian Islands. According to MauiHawaii.org, there are sections with architecture, gardens, and statues, portraying the Chinese, Japanese, New England, Portuguese, Native Hawaiian, Korean, Puerto Rican and Filipino people.

Friday Fotos – the clouds move in on trip to Iao Valley

August 19, 2016 By Terry 2 Comments

Iao Valley

During our last trip to Maui, we decided to take a trip to Iao Valley. It had rained heavily the night before, but we didn’t realize how much rain had been coming down in this area until we turned onto the road to the valley. During the trip, the clouds were playing peek-a-boo with the mountains around us. It was a spectacular sight and one that had me wanting to stop the car every few minutes to take a picture.

As it happened, there had been enough rain to close the road at Heritage Gardens. Not expecting much from the gardens, we turned in and were rewarded with one of the most beautiful sets of gardens I’ve ever seen. I’d love to go back to see the gardens, but wonder if we’d get so lucky as to see the clouds and mountains do this dance again.

Friday Fotos – one last view of Heritage Gardens

April 1, 2016 By Terry Leave a Comment

One of the many things I loved so much about Heritage Gardens were the little walking paths. There are not many straight paths here. Most meander to their destination—another sculpture, statuary, or pond—and lead you past more amazing sights. How could you not get lost in time in a place like this?

Friday Fotos — return to Heritage Park Gardens

March 25, 2016 By Terry Leave a Comment

Last week’s Friday Foto showed a different pond at Maui’s Heritage Park Gardens. This one, which is located in a corner of the park just off a small pathway, has a little waterfall at the back, which you can see if you look closely. Back here, the sound of trickling water creates a zen-like state of mind. It just makes me want to go back and watch the plants grow!

Friday Fotos — Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens

March 18, 2016 By Terry 2 Comments

I’ve posted some photos of Maui’s Kepaniwai Heritage Gardens previously. The day we were there it was raining and the clouds were moving in through the mountains in ever-changing patterns. One minute, gray mist enshrouded the mountaintops, the next the mountains were back. The waterfalls and the river behind the park were running full force thanks to the rain.

We spent a long time wandering around, ducking under the cover of pagoda and trees when the mist turned heavier. The visit to Heritage Gardens was a trip I’d love to repeat. The peacefulness of Heritage Gardens is pure magic and the surrounding calm immense.
