Is the holiday rush stressing you out? How about some color therapy?
No sooner was Thanksgiving over than we started swapping out our fall decorations for the red and green of Christmas. That whole change-out process seems to be taking longer than usual this year. It feels like the holiday rush is taking on a life of its own and making it hard to find a block of time to actually do the work. With all that in mind, I decided some holiday color from the islands would be a great subject for this week’s photo. Let’s file this one under the heading of ‘cheaper than therapy’.
This lovely arrangement was in the lobby of a hotel we walked through during our trip to Hawaii in 2019. I love how the reds of the anthurium and ginger, paired with the green foliage, fit in with the season. It’s almost as if this arrangement is telling me there’s no need for the holiday season to feel so rushed. Mind you, we were visiting in May, so I doubt that whoever put this together had the holiday season in mind.
Here on the mainland, we usually turn to poinsettias and holly berries for this type of color. But, why not use anthurium and ginger? The colors are perfect and they’re readily available in the islands. And now that I think about it, I really like the idea. Enough so that I’m declaring anthurium and ginger my new favorite holiday plants. Now all I have to do is find a way to not cram so much stuff into a day—but that’s going to take more than a couple of pretty plants.
