Exploring Kahanamoku Beach on a paddle board
It was early in the morning when this paddle boarder showed up at Kahanamoku Beach and slowly made his way out from shore. The water was calm, so it was an easy trek for him. In some ways, I thought how nice it would have been to join him, but then I remembered my one experience on a paddle board.
My wife bought me a paddle board lesson for my birthday almost a decade ago. The lesson took place at the Oceanside marina. The water there was protected, so the only waves to speak of came from passing boats. The instructor spent a little bit of time telling us about the basics. He assured us that the boards were very stable and that he’d never had anyone fall off. Let’s just say I made history that day. If you’d like to read about the experience, check out my old post about The paddle boarding incident.
These days, I’m content to do this kind of thing vicariously. Maybe someday when we’re back in Hawaii I’ll get the urge to try again…nah. I’ll stick to something a little less embarrassing.
