One of the things I love about Hawaii is the wide variety of flowering plants. They, like the residents, come from all over the world. I’m not sure what this Akaka Falls mystery flower is, but am wondering if it could be part of the ginger family.

It is a type of ginger but I’ve never seen one in such a pale pink. I always see them in bright red. They’re all over the Islands though.

Aloha Marissa, thanks for the confirmation. We had red ginger right outside our window on Kauai, so I was familiar with that. But I’ve never seen one this color before either.

Could it be part of the Bromiliad family?
Terry says
Hi Sandra, I’m really not sure, but as Marissa said in her comment, it could be a type of ginger. If it is ginger, I’ve never seen one in such a light pink.
