Do you believe in mermaids?

July 18, 2012 By Terry

There are books about mermaids like Mermaid: A Twist on the Classic Tale by Carolyn Turgeon, which is where this image came from.

The buzz around the globe is all about mermaids. Aloha, McKenna here. And because I’m just a fictional character, it makes perfect sense for me to address this issue. If you haven’t heard, the Animal Planet TV channel recently broadcast a documentary about the discovery of a mermaid. Well, humuhumunukunukuapua’a! That sounds good to me.

Before you go getting all excited about this monumental discovery, let’s take a peek at who’s saying what. Animal Planet ran the documentary a while back, and now they’ve rerun it during the summer. The US Government is on the other side of this argument, telling us that mermaids don’t exist.

Well, those nice folks at Animal Planet have always focused on telling us the truth about nature and animals, so why should their pattern? And the government—well, enough said. Now, if you read Photo Finish, you’ll see that I keep “meeting up” with some old guy in green board shorts. Maybe it’s Hawaiian voodoo, maybe it’s something else. But, if I can meet that old surfer in the book, my money’s going to go down on the mermaid.

That’s right, it might only be me and some guy in New York named Allen (who was played by Tom Hanks in a much older “documentary” called Splash) who believe in them, but let’s hear it for the unknown. If you don’t believe in mermaids, that’s fine. Next thing, though, you’ll probably tell me you don’t believe in Santa.

About Terry

I started out as a skip tracer. Just in case you don’t know, that’s the guy who finds the people who don’t want to be found. It was the little things—getting paid to lie—that made skip tracing the fun part of the job.

Those years of chasing deadbeats taught me many valuable life lessons, such as liars come from all walks of life, and always keep your car in the garage.
