One of the things that’s most impressive about New Zealand’s Larnach Castle, including this entryway, is how beautifully the wood has been restored. Everywhere you look, the wood gleams, looking as rich as it did when William Larnach built it for his first wife Eliza. It’s difficult to imagine people living in a home this ornate, performing their daily tasks like cooking, cleaning, eating meals. Did they notice the amazing colors and textures? Did they even notice as they walked through this doorway?
