One of the things we loved most about our former condo at Kauai Beach Villas was the landscaping. The grounds were lush and green throughout the year. In addition to beauties such as Hawaiian ginger, we had stately palms, a variety of low-growing bushes, plumeria, and much more surrounded peaceful lagoons. The variety in the landscaping always made it a delight to walk the grounds.
Right outside our living room window, we had several of these Hawaiian ginger plants. Did you know the flowers emit a delightful fragrance when you crush them? We discovered this on our Road to Hana tour.
Plants grow well on Kauai, so the big surprise was how much irrigation water the resorts use. Even though the east side of the island receives an average rainfall of 36″ in a year, the resorts must irrigate. It’s the only way to keep up the aura of a tropical paradise.
