I’m digging back to our 2014 trip to the Big island and Parker Ranch for this week’s Friday Foto. On a beautiful day in Kamuela, we visited the Parker Ranch. The artwork inside is stunning, but the views outside were equally so. This shot is taken looking toward Mauna Kea, which you can see in the background. It’s surrounded by clouds, but rising majestically above. The grounds when we were here were manicured and lush, despite the drought they’d been having.
One Town – Two Names
Though Parker Ranch is considerably smaller than it was at its peak, the entire area bears its imprint. By the way, the town of Kamuela is also called Waimea. The name was changed when the US Postal Service decided only one city could have the same name in a single state. Hence, of the three towns originally named Waimea in Hawaii, there’s only one left, and it’s on the island of Kauai.
