This Maui photo was taken during our stay in Lahaina. One day, we took a drive from Lahaina to the ʻIao Valley. The drive takes you south from Lahaina along the Honoāpiilani Highway, which is the only road possible to use. The highway does continue north out of Lahaina and then around the island, but that’s a very different trip. For this one, we were more interested in the destination than seeing scenery along the way, so we took the 45 minute trip instead of the very long alternative.
This particular photo was taken just south of Lahaina at one of the small roadside turnouts. There were a couple of other cars around, but without facilities and no big places to surf or play on the beach, our quiet little stop became an opportunity to get close to the water with very little effort.
